Top 6 tips for travelling to Ghana

· travel guide,travel,ghana,africa

As with anywhere in this globalised world, lots will be familiar, but brands and tourism are pretty standardised, but there are a few things to be aware of before you go:

1. No matter how seasoned you are, get your shots and take malaria pills. Mossies don't give a shit that you went kayaking through the Amazon. Let DEET save your life (and anxiety).

2. Don't expect to be fussed over, just like mossies don't think you're special, Ghanaians don't either.

3. Hardly anyone smokes, but cigarettes are cheap.

4. It's perfectly safe, even for solo female travellers, but don't invite trouble. Humans are the same, wherever they're from.

5. Don't come here just to get karma points, leave your halo at home and treat them like equals.

6. It's all about the Benjamins, or whoever is on their money. There are lots of cash machines, but don't rely on your flexible friend. They're pretty flexible, some take US dollars, some take pound sterling, but the cedi is king.
